Day 2 in Japan: Exploring Tokyo’s Wonders

Tokyo is vast, and on our first evening, we took some time to wander around the Shinagawa Train Station area. The hustle and bustle of this enormous city never fails to astound. Something as simple as crossing the road can become a video-worthy moment, especially when captured in timelapse mode. The energy of Tokyo is infectious, and the vibrant streets, packed with life, offer endless sights and sounds to absorb.

As we walked, the aroma of delicious food filled the air, teasing us with promises of culinary adventure. The images of food displayed outside restaurants were so enticing that it left us wondering how these dishes might taste. As a Westerner, knowing the ingredients might give pause, but not taking that first bite could mean missing out on an entirely new taste sensation. If the flavors match the visual appeal, we’re certainly in for a treat!

One of the standout experiences of the day was visiting Sengakuji Temple, home to the graves of the 47 Ronin. Seeing the graves laid out alongside their avenged lord was both moving and inspiring. For many of us on this buying trip, this has been a highlight so far, and we’ve all agreed to rewatch the film to deepen our appreciation of this historical tale of honour and loyalty.

In the afternoon, we explored the shops and restaurants near the station and visited a local hotel park where we encountered our first Koi of the trip. The Koi looked stunning and swam eagerly toward us, clearly expecting food. The pond held a variety of beautiful Koi, and it sparked a lively conversation among my travel companions about their dream purchases for the upcoming week. From their answers, I’m already formulating a travel plan through the Niigata mountains to make some dreams come true—not just for us but for everyone back home who has submitted their Koi request forms.

Tomorrow, we plan to visit the iconic Shibuya Scramble Crossing, a must-see for anyone visiting Tokyo, as well as a Harley-Davidson shop that has piqued our interest. We’ll also explore some of Tokyo’s famous tech stores, immersing ourselves in the cutting-edge side of this amazing city. The adventures continue, and we’re more excited than ever to share this journey with you.
